Oakland is scheduled to pay Mack $13.9 million this season as part of the fifth-year option in his rookie contract.

Mack’s decision to hold out during the offseason is made more potentially damaging because the Raiders have a new coaching staff under Jon Gruden. Defensive coordinator Paul Guenther told reporters last week that Mack will be behind once he does report to the team.

“He’s going to have a lot of catching up to do. We’re going to have to have a plan for that, for sure,” Guenther said. “Really, I’m concerned about the guys that are here now working.
